for fun
art, illustrations, and crafts
Below are a few projects I worked on just for fun! Outside of school and work related projects, I try to incorporate design into my life whenever possible. I hope you enjoy!
james's 21st birthday record
For my best friend James's 21st birthday, a group of my friends and I decided to get him a personalized record with his favorite songs at the moment as well as songs that remind us of him. I had the ability to design the record sleeve and I wanted it to be vibrant with a scrapbook-like feel.
Because this gift was meant to be very personal to James, I wanted to be sure to make this cover as meaningful as possible. I included photos of all of the people who contributed to the gift as well as special memories we all made together as a friend group.
いただきます!
Admittedly, this was a project for my NYU Design Studio class, BUT I'm so incredibly proud of this project that I wanted to spotlight it under a different category.
For this project, I was required to make my own book - from designing the content to printing it and binding it together. I have always loved the interactiveness of children's books and I decided to make one myself – but all in Japanese.
Titled いただきます!(can you tell I love this phrase?) this book highlights different Japanese foods. I made each page out of a variety of different materials, starting with cardboard covered in colored construction paper for the pages. For the foods, I used paper, wooden sticks, thread, felt, and more. Finally, I bound the book using hot glue and tied it all together with a string to resemble a little bento box.
いただきます! was very arts and crafts based and to this day, is still my favorite project of all time.
